About ByJimeny SCF

JimMy name is Jim Stafford. I’m in my early 70s.  Born in Shelbyville, IN.  Grew on a corn and soybean farm.  Discovered ham radio (www.w4qo.com) before girls.  Went to Purdue and MIT and became an electrical engineer.  My dad was an excellent craftsman and inventor in his day, mostly in welding and metals, but some woodworking.  I hope I’m only half as good as he was.   I operate my small one man shop in Roswell, GA, 25 miles due north of downtown Atlanta.  I was a limited woodworker for  thirty years but then in 1998 I built my dream shop behind my house after retiring from my first career in telecommunications at Bellsouth. It is 40 x 24 feet with upstairs storage.  I build custom fine furniture especially focusing on the Arts and Crafts line but I also do model work, building one of a kind mock up pieces for businesses in the area.  I will also do art furniture pieces based in American and exotic wood.  In this regard, I have worked with a number of students at the Portfolio Center in Atlanta to bring their designs to life.  If you have a concept, I will be happy to work with you to design a piece of appropriate proportions for your home or business. Call me for a full discussion of our capabilities.  You will not be disappointed.

I have taken courses regularly at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking in Whiteland, IN and at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, ME.  I have studied in short courses under some very qualified "masters" such as Sam Maloof,  Frank Klauz, Neal Owings, Chris Gochnaur,  Kevin Rodel, Lynette Breton and the late Dr. Roger Cliffe.  I myself now teach classes such as routercraft, table saw, and woodworking fundamentals.  Click the Classes button on the left for more information.
