Covers nature and beauty of Shaker furniture. Philosophy of design are critical to understanding this style. The project for the class is to build a Shaker table (if you can't wait, you can order this kit from http://www.shakerworkshops.com). Techniques covered will include wood selection, preparation, mortise and tenon joinery, leg tapering, table top layout/glue up, sanding, and even finishing. We will use many shop tools such as table saw, router table, mortising machine, and belt sander. Various router bits are required as well as other power tools. Common items such as glue, sandpaper, and finish will be provided.
